If you are meeting a recruiter for a sales position, make sure you come prepared with the following;
- Outline of your skills sets. Do you prefer business development or account management? Conversation should revolve around the skills needed to be successful for that role and do you have them.
- Examples of successes you’ve had in your current role that will give the recruiter insight to that.
- Know your numbers. Where are you against plan now? What were your numbers at the end of 2013? If you don’t know your numbers, you probably didn’t do them.
- Know the steps of the sale process. If you can’t define them (and there are many to choose from) you don’t have one. What you have is an idea of what the process is.
- Ask about corporate culture. Often times this is missed because you only see the dollar signs of what the position pays.
- Know how much you want to be compensated.
- Be ready to explain your resume. If there are gaps, prepare to explain why in a clear and succinct manner. Long stories may raise red flags. Above all else, be truthful.
- Bring your resume. It shows the recruiter that you come prepared and will come prepared if they present you to their client.
- Come with questions. If you were already working for the company, what would you need to know to do your job?
